WEDNESDAY July 15, 6:30-8 PM More than Bragging Rights: The History, Why and How of Honey Showswith EAS Master Beekeeper Karla Eisen (In person meeting: recording available after meeting) |
Honey shows are about more than ribbons! Learn from Karla Eisen why honey shows were created, what they involve, and how they make you a better beekeeper and friend to both bees and the public. It's honey harvest time in DC: let's think about how, why, and for whom we are taking this bounty from our bees. Taking honey and other products from a colony, extracting or packaging, and then offering it to others is powerful, important, and relies upon all of us doing right by bees, beekeepers, and our neighbors. Karla will share both the history and the process of honey shows, including using real tools like polariscopes and refractometers to demonstrate how judging happens (and what it means). Bring a sample for us to test during the meeting! ALSO Details about the DC State Fair: contests available, entry deadlines and sign up, date and location! No Zoom: Recording available to non-members for one month/unlimited access for DCBA members About DCBA Meetings: - Free and open to the public!
